Drupal Decoupled Now Supports Drupal 11

Drupal Decoupled now supports Drupal 11, bringing the project in line with the latest stable Drupal release.
This update ensures all core modules and recipes are compatible with Drupal 11, maintaining the project stability teams rely on.
The timing was intentional. Rather than rushing compatibility, we waited for critical modules to achieve stable Drupal 11 support.
This approach prioritizes production reliability over early adoption, ensuring that teams building decoupled architectures have access to tested and stable dependencies.
What's Updated in Drupal Decoupled
All Drupal Decoupled recipes now run on Drupal 11, with module dependencies updated to their latest compatible versions.
This includes GraphQL, GraphQL Compose, Simple OAuth, Decoupled Preview Iframe, Gin Login, Gin Toolbar, and other supporting contrib modules.
These modules enable the API-first architecture that makes Drupal Decoupled practical for modern front-end frameworks.
The Composer template has been updated to align with Drupal 11, simplifying initial setup and making it easier to track which Drupal Core version your project targets.
Documentation and deployment scripts reflect Drupal 11 configurations, ensuring a consistent developer experience across local development environments (DDEV and Lando), Tugboat preview deployments, and production hosting platforms.
What's Coming to Drupal Decoupled: Canvas Integration
Drupal Canvas represents an evolution in editorial experience, introducing drag-and-drop page building with component-based architecture. It brings visual composition tools directly into the CMS without sacrificing the flexibility of decoupled frontends.
We're exploring GraphQL integration to expose Canvas data structures to decoupled frontends. This would make visual layouts accessible through the same GraphQL API that serves other content, maintaining consistency across the content delivery system.
For teams already using Drupal Decoupled with Storybook component libraries and design system patterns, Canvas integration would extend these patterns by letting content editors compose pages from the same components that front-end developers use.
We'll share more details as this work progresses. Teams interested in Canvas can learn more at DrupalCon Chicago 2026.
Try Drupal Decoupled
One-click Tugboat deployment is available for immediate testing. No local setup required, no CLI commands to run. Click, wait for the environment to spin up, and start exploring both the Drupal backend and your choice of Next.js or Remix frontend templates.
For local development, full documentation covers setup with DDEV and Lando, Composer template configuration, and deployment to production hosting platforms. The project is designed to work with your existing workflows rather than requiring specific tooling.
